I found some beautiful roses at Sam's Club this weekend. I thought they would be great to photograph and put on my blog for my frirends to enjoy.
However, lighting was low because we had lots of clouds just as I was setting up the photo. The vintage fabric really is that ecru color. The white rose bud is whiter than the fabric.
I used to take tons and tons of photos when I used a film camera. I spent hours in the darkroom and loved black and white photography. I had to give it up when the chemicals got to me and when I moved to Flagstaff into apartment living. It's somewhat difficult to have a darkroom in a one bedroom apartment without adequate ventilation. Anyway, I haven't done a whole lot of photography except with my cell phone and my little point-n-shoot Nikon that I carry in my purse. Taking the big Can D50 DSLR out of its hiding place and taking pictures has been a challenge. Geez, but it's heavy. Maybe I need to do more back strengthing exercises.
I use the DSLR for the photos I take of images for my Etsy shops but not much else. I sure don't walk around carrying it - it's way heavy with the extra lenses. I think the last time I really, really walked around with the camera was in May 2009 when I took a bookmaking workshop with DJ Pettitt in Los Gatos, CA. It's time to play again.
While talking to a dear friend yesterday about my photography, she reminded me that I am such a good photographer. I told her, that, yes I am, but when any artist/writer gets out of the habit of creating, it takes a bit of willingness and work to get going again and to get back to where we used to be, or better. That's why I'm taking pics. I'm having fun and playing.
My next images, I hope, will be of some treasures I found at an estate sale on Sunday with a woman who closed down her gift and decorating store in Scottsdale, AZ. I'm returning to her Flagstaff home on Saturday to pick up a painting I found and I plan to take pictures, if she will let me, around her house of the treasures.
Before I forget, I almost forgot to "publish" this blog post. I took a detour and looked up "Technorati" since I have the ability to insert keywords and Technorati Tags with my post. As far as I can tell, Technorati is a blog search engine. Maybe I'll get into their search if I blog enough?!? We can only hope. And when I went to the Technorati site, I decided to look at art blogs. The first one I came up was Balzer Designs. You've seen her in the Interweave DVDs.
